Graduate Teacher Professional Learning Program

This program builds confidence and expertise, develops understanding of how students learn and builds a repertoire of strategies to cater for their diverse learning needs.

It is aligned with Phase 1 of the dimensions of the Competency Framework for Teachers and supports their movement from provisional to full registration with WACOT.

The Professional Learning Program:

is built around four modules which provide practical support for participants to develop their confidence and expertise in classroom practice, and to deal more successfully with issues that arise.

Modules:

Module 1: Becoming Part of a Professional Community

Module 2: Facilitating Student Learning

Module 3: Assessing and Reporting Student Learning Outcomes

Module 4: Participating in Curriculum Policy and Other Program Initiatives in an Outcomes-Focused Environment

Feedback from participants completing Module 1 has been extremely positive:
  • "The workshop gave both practical and emotional support when it was most needed. "
  • "The course refreshed and reinforced key aspects of teaching practice at a time when I really felt I needed this kind of support."
  • "Increased my confidence. I feel much better about what I have done and where I am at. Fantastic resources and ideas. It made me feel very supported."
  • "It is interesting and I feel extremely refreshed and am eager to go back into the classroom to try out the things I have learnt."

The professional learning program for Graduate Teachers aims to enhance the capacity and skill level of teachers who are in the early stages of their careers.
