Elective: Classroom Management & Instructional Skills Program
This module will provide participants with a context for developing their understandings about:
- effective/ineffective teachers
- key behaviour management skills
- skills to deal with escalating behaviours
- practices that develop safe classrooms and ensure accountability
- information abou the CM&IS program
- links to a whole school approach.
Participants will be conferenced between units on the skills developed. In-school conferencing takes approximately 1 hour per participant. Further information will be provided during the first unit.
Unit 1: Classroom Management
- Program overview - coaching model - what works/what doesn't; Gordon Skill model; 5 day program
- Rationale for Low-key techniques - predictable behaviours; Theory of Bumps; Effective/ineffective
- Low-key techniques
- Overview of conferencing
- Fear of failure - avoidance
- Questioning techniques
The module consists of Unit 1 and Unit 2 and workshops are run over two spaced days.
