Elective: Gifted & Talented Students in WA Classrooms
Unit 1: Identifying the Learning Needs of Gifted Students
- Considering the implications of difference between strengths, gifts and talents in classroom planning and provision of appropriate learning programs
- Understanding the cognitive and affective characteristics of gifted students
- Planning
and implementing appropriate indentification tools across the different
phases of schooling including objective and subjective identification
methods.
- Pedagogical considerations for gifted and talented students who 'under-achieve', particularly those students from different cultural or low socio-economic backgrounds
- Understanding differentiation and applying either the Kaplan Model, Bloom's Taxonomy or the William's Model in the classrom
- Considerations for accelerated learning.
Participants will have the opportunity in-between units to communicate with state, national and international leaders in this field of education through the on-line learning community at Greenhouse. Further information will be provided during the first unit.
The content of this module will enable participants to apply an evidence base to the analysis, development and implementation of classroom or school practices that promote optimal development of gifted and talented students.
